Question about police radar detector for cars?
Do they really work? How do you work them? What is X and KA band?
Would a cheap one like this? Whistler XTR-130 do the job? Or do you have to go out and buy a really expensive one?
Say Andres, the answer is yes they do work, some work very well , others not so well, there are a lot of different types of police radar on the road today, the x and k and ka bands are some of the older radars some are still used by the smaller and rural departments. There are a slew of newer and more accurate radars used by big city and state departments including instant on and lazer. Any detector is better than none, in some states it is against the law to use a detector so know your laws, some municipalities also have ordnances on detectors. The best detector can alert you over a mile away on clear straight aways, giving you ample time to slow down, Escort, Beltronics, and Valentine are among the best and they detect everything on the road with few false alerts. One of the shortfall on the cheaper detectors is they alert to non-radar sources like garage doors,micro-wave emmisions, supermarket door electronics etc...so they come with discriminators to reduce false alerts. Some come with a lot of bells and whisles, its up to you to study them and decide.. Let your wallet and conscience be your guide when you buy one. I personally like the escort solo2, its cordless, small and light, easily transferable to all my cars, and has phenomenal range and features, its pricey, but has paid for itself many times over... hope this helps....good luck
